Online Event: Launch of UK nations WAAW 2024 plans and toolkit(s) and celebration of 10-years of the Antibiotic Guardian campaign

 

Register for the WAAW Webinar and 10-year Antibiotic Guardian Event at 1:00-4:15pm on Wednesday 25 September 2024.

You are invited to register for and attend a live webinar** on 25th September from 1:00 to 4:15pm to launch this year’s World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) plans and toolkit(s) across the four UK nations and to celebrate 10-years of the Antibiotic Guardian campaign which was launched in 2014 and has since received more than 200,000 pledges from 137 countries worldwide. The event will also provide the opportunity to find out about the 2024-29 UK National Action Plan on AMR that was launched in May 2024.

The webinar will be chaired by Prof Diane Ashiru-Oredope (Lead Pharmacist for HCAI and AMR at UKHSA and Chair of the English Surveillance Programme for Antimicrobial Utilisation and Resistance (ESPAUR)). Speakers will include colleagues from UKHSA, NHS England, Scottish Government, Public Health Wales, Public Health Agency Northern Ireland, the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, Microbiology Society, GP practices, NHS trusts, Integrated Care Boards and the Veterinary Medicines Directorate.

The webinar will consist of three parts:

  • Part 1: An overview of the 2024-29 National Action Plan (NAP) for AMR and case studies of how the NAP is being actioned locally/regionally and by professional bodies
  • Part 2: Launch of WAAW 2024 plans and toolkit(s) across the four UK nations
  • Part 3: A celebration of 10-years of Antibiotic Guardian including the timeline, journey of Antibiotic Guardian and the impact of Antibiotic Guardian initiatives, including hearing from previous shortlisted and winners of the AG Shared Learning and Awards

Antibiotic Guardian was developed in 2014 by UK Health Security Agency. The campaign is led by UK Health Security Agency (PHE) in collaboration with the Devolved Administrations (Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland); the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and professional bodies/ organisations towards the ‘One Health’ initiative.

The initial concept for this website and logo was developed jointly with the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, who also kindly provided the initial funding for the website

Antibiotic Guardian supports the UK Antimicrobial Resistance strategy, European Antibiotic Awareness Day (18 November) and World Antibiotic Awareness Week (14-20 November 2016)
